BIG & Little : Board Book
Published in Hardcover by Little Brown & Company (April, 2001)
Author: Todd Parr
Average review score:

An ideal first book
This was one of the first books we showed my daughter, and it quickly became her favorite. From about 5 months to 8 months, she smiled happily every time we showed her the simple contrasting images in Todd Parr's little book. I highly recommend it for new babies.

Great first book
We started reading this book to our son at about 3-4 months. He loved the simple words and drawings, but I think the colors really got him. He started turning the pages after a short time. It's a nice small board book; the perfect size for little hands. He's 10 months now and still loves it even though it's well chewed. This book really got his attention at an early age and he loves all sorts of other books now. This book is now one of my standard baby gifts.

Another winner from Todd Parr
I bought this book while visiting my parents during Christmas. We realized that our 1-year old son did not have enough to keep him occupied (this was prior to Dec. 25). We already own "The Okay Book" (which I also highly recommend) so we're partial to Todd Parr and his style (childlike drawings on pages with vibrant, contrasting colors). "BIG & little" was an instant hit with my son, who was carrying it around with him before we even left the store. It's a great mix of contrast and repetition, with each set of pages showing two similar items (vehicles, foods, animals), one drawn on a large scale (banana) and the other on a small scale (peas). Our son has been flipping through the book frequently ever since we got home. The thick board pages are durable and it's small enough for him to hold easily in his car seat as well. While he isn't exactly "reading" it, the concept of big and little is being reinforced nonetheless. Many of Todd Parr's books are good. "BIG & little" is no exception. Buy it - you and your child won't be disappointed.

Brave Souls: Writers and Artists Wrestle With God, Love, Death, and Things That Matter
Published in Paperback by General Distribution Services (December, 1996)
Author: Douglas Todd
Average review score:

Skilfull and fascinating
By Carolyn Purden, Toronto Star
Moral issues, ethical concerns and spiritual matters are themes in the work of many contemporary North American writers, singers, painters and sculptors. Religious imagery and symbolism abound.
Yet how much do these themes and literary devices reflect the artists' beliefs?
This is the question posed by Douglas Todd, author of The Soul-Searcher's Guide to the Galaxy.
In Brave Souls, he questions 28 artists about their work and the philosophy and beliefs central to their lives. The eclectic group includes film director Paul Verhoeven, sculptor Bill Reid, cartoonist Lynn Johnston, Inuk singer Susan Aglukark and writer Carol Shields.
Nearly all attended worship in their youth, and a few still attend occasionally. But all are troubled by religious orthodoxy and their spiritual search is taking place outside institutional religion.
Their responses provide a range of spiritual insights that Todd groups in four sections: the atheists; the doubters; the new ancients, whose faith is rooted in organized religion, and the emerging mystics.
Some common themes emerge. Johnston speaks for several artists when she says she cannot accept Christ's divinity. "I'm starting to see other people as divine, too -- such as saints and exceptional people," she says.
Many artists echo Shields' belief in the centrality of love.
"It's your basic molecule," she comments. "Why else would we make an effort to be sort of good in the world and with one another, if it weren't for this kind of mystical connection that holds us together?"
Robertson Davies, interviewed shortly before his death, talked of his lifetime interest in the Christian heresy of Gnosticism, which led him to a belief in God's feminine aspect. Singers Susan Aglukark and Bruce Cockburn reveal they have continuing conversations with God.
Timothy Findley has felt the presence of God in the vast Arctic barrens.
Writer Laurence Gough says he experienced the presence of God while keeping a deathbed vigil. Of his stepfather's death, Gough recalls "a real sense of rustling in the air -- a sense he had risen up out of himself, of something leaving him when he died. And not just life itself. but something far more powerful than that."
Todd has skilfully culled the essence of each artist's beliefs. It all makes fascinating, and, at times, thought-provoking reading.

Important Book
Douglas Todd, the highly respected Vancouver Sun journalist, has examined the spirituality of Canadian writers and artists in his important book, Brave Souls.

Wonderful
If mushy, gushy romantic stories interest you, this series will captivate you to no end. Follow Christy Miller and her beau Todd throughout their college years, romantic involvements, and issues that follow. I recommend reading every single one of these book in the series, in order to get the full effect and understand otherwise the story will have less meaning and you will not understand it to the fullest. I highly recommend this book.

The sections on video exporting, and postproduction effects was particularly eye opening. this section alone cleared a lot uncertainty for me.

It will open a lot of doors personaly and in the hands of a talented, creative person, change the ever evolving face of the Flash community indelibly.

Happiness
Published in Paperback by Faber & Faber, Inc. (01 October, 1998)
Author: Todd Solondz
Average review score:

Good movie, good scpript.
This is the exact dialog that's in the movie, Happiness. I have all of Todd Solondz's other script books, and if you (really) like his movies, this, (and the others, Welcome to the Dollhouse, Storytelling) are recommended, because it's fun to read the movie when you are unable to see the movie. The subject matter in Happiness is dark, but very funny, and at times very sad.
"I came."

OUTRAGEOUS,OFFENSIVE...HILARIOUS
Happiness is a masterpiece for Todd Solondz in writing and directing. With wonderfully real characters and actors this is truly a remarkable piece. Dialogue and situations will offend everyone at the Rainbow Coalition.

Better than Pulp Fiction
It was the Dan Clowes's artwork on the movie poster that first caught my attention. I had to watch the movie. But, alas, too much was censored. Fortunately, I managed to get a copy of the screenplay (plus the Dan Clowes cover as a bonus!).

In my opinion, I rank it above Pulp Fiction. While Pulp is intentionally made to be cool and stylish, Happiness is totally honest, minus the coolness and style. I know they're a totally different movie, but I can't help making the comparison because Pulp Fiction is mentioned in the blurp by Vogue on the back cover.

Well, I'm sorry if you're a Pulp's fan...

True Riches are rarely in the rut you live in
TRUE RICHES By: Todd A Sinelli Lit Torch Publishing Box 5264,Santa Cruz, Ca. 95063 2001 $11.95 76 pages

Todd sent me this book to review ,I scanned it, and really did not pay a lot of attention; then I got an e mail asking if I had done a review; and as I had not, I sat down and read the book. I am really glad that I did. The book spoke into my life about what matters as opposed to what the culture considers important.

Todd takes us with him as he reexamines his life to see how having it all may not be as good as losing it all if in the losing we discover that which is truly of value. He well says that if your dream is money that you will never have enough and you will always have anxiety about losing that you have. This happened in Todd's life when he lost his second pile of money and decided to see another side of life.

What he discovered, and the interview with Satin in which the most effective weapons of the evil one are shown; is more that worth the price of the book.Once you learn the most effective tool that Satin uses to try to steal your peace your joy and ultimately your soul the choice will be yours as to what you do. The author does something all too rare in Christian writing and that is color outside the box. Become convinced that God made you unique and that He did not intend for you to be struck in a rat race. Todd challenges us to Fear God and nothing else.

This book could set you free and allow you to see a whole other way of living that is abundant and full of Peace and Joy. If however you are content in your rut, if you are enamored of your chains and if you really think that another pile of money will meet all your needs, forget spend the money on therapy instead of this book.

John Acuff Country Lawyer

Wealth immeasurable.
The best things in life are often things that we fail to recognize because we are too busy or moving too fast and those blessings happen in the places we least expect. I know many people who unless prompted, would probably not read a book like TRUE RICHES because it's a small book; "why waste time reading something so short" they ask (flawed logic, I know, but it is a common response). What they fail to recognize is that sometimes it is the smallest things in life that are or can contain the biggest blessings.TRUE RICHES is a great book. It is honest, concise, and full of meaning. Todd Sinelli writes from the heart. His style is so refreshing compared to much of the muck and mush that's common in not just Christian writings, but in much of the literary world. Not only that, but Todd Sinelli is a man who knows what he's talking about. He's traveled around the world and has been a multi-millionaire twice. He's done things and been places that many just dream about. Yet, as Todd discusses in this book, true riches cannot be found in the wealth and wisdom of the world. True riches lie somewhere else. Todd has experienced the empty highs and painful lows of our material world and perhaps in reading this book, others maybe saved from making similar mistakes and find true riches.

Personally inspiring and "quality of life" enhancing
In True Riches, Todd Sinelli draws upon his own life experience of being broke at 23, a multi-millionaire at 25, broke again at 28, to address such vital questions of the true meaning of success, what it means to be rich, having and realizing personal dreams, thinking differently, and what are truly a person's greatest investment. True Riches is a slender, 76-page treatise that will prove both personally inspiring and "quality of life" enhancing.

3Ds Max 4 Ground Rules

Author: Michael Todd Peterson
Average review score:

Good book, but not a lot detail
If you are a newbie to 3ds max then this would be a good book for you. I am on chapter 7 of this book and am finding a small fraction of difficulty. This book doesn't get into as much detail as I would have preferred it to. One thing I didn't like was making this robot model. All it really is, is spheres and cylinders. But I guess it's just a newbie book. So let me just say that its not the best book in the world for max 4. Seriously my friends, if you want to start 3ds max 4, there are better books out there than this one. Overall, this book is an alright book to get a novice modeler up and going.

Nice and Easy - Still reading
One aspect of the book is that it is easy to read. Samples, examples explanations. Definately worth reading.

Excellent for beginners
I have read many a 3DS MAX book. -- Well I have tried to read many that is. -- Believe me I have tried off and on for a year or so now. --- This book *truly* is a beginners book that will start you off on the ground level and have you doing things very quickly that are fun. -- I learned more with 3 hours and this book in front of MAX than I had in 3 weeks prior just because this book has a good focus.

Everyone gives everything 5 stars... and I try not to... but then again... I usually only feel inclined to rate things I trully feel derserve high praise. -- This is one of those things.

Ann Margret: My Story
Published in Paperback by Berkley Pub Group (April, 1995)
Authors: Ann-Margaret, Todd Gold, Ann Margret, and Ann-Margaret Gold
Average review score:

All you expect, and a lot you didn't
I've always enjoyed AM's performances whenever I come across them, but I wouldn't consider myself a fan. That's why I'm surprised to be rating this autobiography with 4 stars. I wanted to get the dish on Elvis, and yes, it's here. But there's more, too. She's refreshingly honest about the duality of her nature -- the onstage strumpet who can (to borrow a phrase) start a heat wave by letting her seat wave coexists with the "good girl" who brought friends with her on dates so she wouldn't have to be alone with a man before she was ready; the dutiful daughter who couldn't bear to disappoint her parents coexists with the reckless woman who truthfully, regretfully admits to having ended marital arguments by roaring off on her Harley with a good deal of alcohol in her system. It must be hard for her to live her life with, as she refers to it, "the two Ann-Margrets." I found that, and her enduring love story with Roger, to be the best and most surprising aspects of the book.

A great book by Ann-Margret!
Ann-Margret showed a lot of class in the writing of this book and I just know she is a great person. This book is very discreet - not a tell-all like SOME people.Very informative about her life. For the record,I think Ann-Margret and Elvis should have stayed together, they made a lovely couple!

Ann-Margret reveals her true self
Ann-Margret is one of the most private Hollywood Legends ever...her candid tale is so riveting and just terrific, it's not to be passed up! She is truly a legend and always will be...you will respect her even more after reading this.
